Coach Profile: Dan Williams

What Dan is most well known for is for having finished the Western States 100 miler 21 times. The first year was 1984 and the last 2011. He’s run other 100 milers including Angeles Crest three times with 23:14 being the best time and the San Diego 100.

Dan has also run about fifty 50 milers, seven of which he won. He has run about 75 marathons with a PR of 2:32. (twice!) Dan won the Quadruple Dipsea (28.4 mi) twice setting course records both times.

Check out our “About Ann” page, and you’ll see in the “Races won outright” section the 1991 Bay Area 12 hour. Ann ran over 91 miles that day. Dan was the first male with 84 miles, but over 7 miles behind Ann!

Dan has known Ann since 1987 when they met on a Western States training run. They’ve run a lot of fast training runs together on the Western States trail, local trails in the East Bay hills and on Mt Tamalpais in Marin County.

Something Dan is quite proud of is that his daughter has also finished five 100 milers, including Western States. Needless to say, dad was her coach.
